denon-dvd-2900-dvd-audio-video-super-audio-cd-player
Denon DVD-2900 DVD Audio-Video/Super Audio CD Player

The buzz surrounding Denon's DVD-2900 began with its introduction at the 2003 Consumer Electronics Show ... and it's still going strong! State-of-the-art picture quality, plus the ability to play both SACD and DVD-Audio discs in addition to CDs, makes this the "universal" player for audiophiles and videophiles.

The DVD-2900's progressive-scan mode uses one of the most advanced de-interlacing systems we know of — Silicon Image's PureProgressive™ circuitry. Capable of processing an astonishing 6 billion operations per second, PureProgressive delivers DVD images with pixel-perfect clarity and fluid motion.

Progressive-scan picture quality is richly detailed and dimensional — truly breathtaking when viewed on an HDTV or HDTV-ready TV. If you're using a standard TV, you'll see interlaced-scan video that's extra sharp and clean because the DVD-2900 uses a separate high-speed 54MHz/10-bit DAC to process interlaced signals, instead of the typical 27MHz/10-bit DAC.

There's nothing lightweight about the DVD-2900 — its rigid, vibration-resistant chassis tips the scales at nearly 18 pounds. Inside, audio circuits are physically separated from video circuits, for amazingly noise-free picture and sound. Two "Pure Direct" modes let you switch off the video circuits, digital output, and fluorescent display for ultimate sonic purity.

The number of "universal" players — those that can play DVDs, CDs, SACDs, and DVD-Audio discs — is growing, but Denon's DVD-2900 is already considered a classic. It not only plays high-resolution SACD and DVD-Audio discs (both stereo and multichannel), it makes the most of them. Unlike some previous universal models, it has a dedicated decoder for SACD to really show off this format (already an audiophile favorite). As a bonus, your regular CD collection will sound better, too.

Another big plus for the '2900 is digital bass management. Most A/V receivers apply bass management to multichannel digital signals like Dolby® Digital and DTS®, but not to the high-res multichannel analog signals of SACD and DVD-Audio. So, the DVD-2900 intelligently applies bass management while the signal is still in digital form, before converting it to analog and passing it on to the receiver. Result? Optimally balanced multichannel music when used with a wider variety of speakers, including sub/satellite systems.

With the DVD-2900, Denon has really smacked one out of the ballpark!

Product info:
Plays DVD-Video, DVD-R & DVD-RW, and Video CD
Plays SACD, DVD-Audio, CD, CD-R & CD-RW, and MP3 CD-R & CD-RW
Plays digital photo CDs (JPEG)
108MHz/12-bit video D/A converter for progressive scan, plus separate 54MHz/10-bit video DAC for interlaced scan
Selectable interlaced/progressive-scan mode for smoother video with HD-compatible TVs
Silicon Image Sil 504 de-interlacer with Pure Progressive circuitry and 3-2 pulldown processing
8MB buffer for quick layer change
TruSurround for enhanced 2-speaker sound built-in Dolby Digital/DTS decoder with 5.1-channel output
digital bass management for multichannel output, optical and coaxial digital outputs for Dolby Digital/DTS/PCM (96kHz/24-bit capable)
1 set of A/V outputs (composite, S-video, and 480i/480p component video)
RS-232C port (for 3rd-party system controls only)
Remote control
192kHz/24-bit Burr-Brown audio D/A converter audio signal-to-noise ratio 118 dB
17-1/8"W x 5-3/16"H x 14-3/4"D
Warranty: 1 year parts & labor
Extended holiday returns thru Jan 15
Designed for use with "Region 1" coded DVDs

Fully serviced and good to go - dust off those old DVDs or Super Audio discs and get to playin!!

Come by the Andover shop to demo this fine Denon universal player.

Denon DVD-2900 DVD Audio-Video/Super Audio CD Player: $599 plus sales tax and shipping
