Audio Research VS55 - 6550 Power Amp... ARC at its Finest!

The Audio Research VS55 Tube Power Amplifier was introduced as a new design in 2002 with a rated output of 50 watts per channel. The VS55 makes a wonderful companion to the LS16 line-stage, or any of ARC's formidable preamp options. The VS55 represents a fresh, new design direction for Audio Research. Using an open (rather than fully enclosed) chassis architecture, the VS55 features a milled, anodized top plate through which the input and output tubes project upward. The chassis is finished in matte black with silver lettering, while the top plate is clear anodized with an inset logo. Behind the tubes and finished top plate are located the output and power transformers and a row of high-quality power-supply capacitors. The appearance is crisp and logical without being overly "retro."

The sound of the VS55 is extremely inviting, even with more complicated music selections. Midrange is clear and pronounced in all the right ways but without any hint of harshness or chatter.  And this amp is able to produce ample low end response, even from less efficient speakers, due to its very powerful 50 watt rating. The 6550 tubes provide a unique warmth with a sonic characteristic that borders between comrtiablne and analytical...Really a Goldilocks scenario for the tube aficionado. 

This amp itself is nearly spotless in appearance; the prior owner cherished this amp  beyond reproach.  Internally it has been completely reviewed by our in-house tech and passed every exam with flying colors.
