Snell Acoustics, Type E... 1st Edition and Super Early Build - AMAZING FIND!

Snell Acoustics made truly great speakers right down the road from us in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Snell was founded in 1976 by Peter Snell to develop a speaker that "disappeared" sonically; providing the listener with uncolored and pure music.  Snell's approach combined excellent quality drivers sourced from Europe, and hand-built, hand-matched crossovers to ensure those drivers were performing at Peter's highest possible standards.  Peter Snell personally matched each pair of speakers to a "Reference" pair in his listening room, at a time before computer simulation and analysis!

These super-early edition Snell Type E exemplify Peter Snell's tradition of excellence, with a simple 2-way crossover augmented by a front-firing port to aid in the system's bass response. Following Peter's untimely passing in 1984, his brother, Roy, helped transition the business to new ownership and that group produced many excellent systems but, the Type E remains among Peter's most famous & appreciated designs. Have been a fan of Snell products for years and the E is one of those designs that's reaching "timeless" status in the audiophile community.  It has been copied many times, including recently by the venerable Audio Note company. 

These Type E have been refurbished with new crossover caps, re-coated tweeter diaphragms, and the proper fitting woofer foam.  They are ready to last another 30 years. They are a unique piece of audio history.
