Sony SCD-777ES, Incredibly High Performing SACD Player

Back in the late-90s, when the CD format was still king, Sony used their "ES" line elevate the format even further.  Short for "Elevated Standard" the ES series of components had been around for nearly 2 decades before the SCD-777ES was born.  Sony's attention to detail and quality in the construction and final output of their ES components is exemplified in the SCD-777ES.  From the first push of the tray-open button to the final note of your favorite CD, it's readily apparent why this particular piece is still so popular among audiophiles. 

The SCD-777ES was built from the ground-up in 1999 to provide a perfect platform for the new SACD high-resolution, multi-channel format.  Featuring a more stable chassis with better vibration isolation, massive power transformers, and better EMF shielding, the unit was deigned to be a true flagship for Sony.  Audio performance of this unit is close to immaculate.  The 777ES uses an upgraded D-to-A conversion scheme that Sony called S-TACT ("Synchronous Time Accuracy Controller"). The S-TACT circuit provides for amazingly low distortion by reducing jitter; referencing the output directly to the master clock.  This innovation was developed for the 777ES but has carried on as a component in Sony's SACD products ever since.  Add to that, the "VC24" 24-bit, double-clocked, 24-bit variable coefficient chipset with 8x direct oversampling, the accuracy of this deck is extraordinary. 

This unit works flawlessly.  It shows some very minor signs of wear and from our testing, it plays discs without any skips or stutters.  A full-featured aluminum Sony remote control is also included.  Analog and Digital outputs offer plenty of configurability for most setups.
