Yamaha coined its "Natural Sound" branding in the 1970s, a monicker that has survived to today.  The reason for this is the smooth, clean, and effortless way Yamaha components deliver music.  Yamaha amps have long had excellent drive, capable of commanding and controlling many types of challenging speakers, but doing so in a way that reduces fatigue and makes for lengthy musical enjoyment.

The CR-2020 receiver is a genuine 1977-era “beast” that blends power, precision and a touch of vintage swagger. From the moment you power it on, you’ll feel the heft of premium design: this unit weighs around 40-43 lb, spans over 21″ wide and has the commanding front panel presence of a true audiophile component.

Under the hood, Yamaha spared nothing. Rated at approximately 100 Watts per channel into 8 ohms, with total harmonic distortion specified as low as 0.05%. The CR-2020 introduced Yamaha’s NDCR (Noise Distortion Clearance Range) measurement — tracking performance under real listening conditions, not just motionless bench labs.

The CR-2020's dual phono inputs (including MC capability), three tape monitor loops, three pairs of speaker outputs (A, B, C), full analog-style controls (bass, treble, presence, loudness), and a wood-veneered or silver-face front panel all come together in a way that oozes 1970s aesthetic appeal.

What this means for you: If you’re building a vintage hi-fi setup and want something with presence, substance and excellent sonic performance — the CR-2020 will deliver. It’s capable of driving demanding speakers, retains the feel of classic analog hifi, and when properly serviced, will perform elegantly today.

This unit has been reviewed, cleaned and serviced by our in house tech and is ready for many more years of music enjoyment.  Once Yamaha's "crown jewel," the next owner will be honored to have this timeless classic adorn their listening chamber. This is truly one you don't want to miss.
