The Yamaha CX-800/U is an early 1990's era classic preamplifier known for is ultra clean sonic signature and Yamaha's patented "Natural Sound" appeal. This preamp's robust build quality has meant that its held its value over the years. Designed at a time when audio and video were just merging into one mega-industry, the CX-800/U features both audio and video (composite) switching for playback and recording functions. Although primitive today, this capability was state of the art in its time, especially for a piece as accessible as this one to a large population of buyers.
The CX-800/U's analog capabilities are terrific. The phono stage allows for either MM or MC cart loading, with an MC input sensitivity as low as 0.1mV, meaning this unit can work with even the lowest output, and highest sensitivity carts. Amazing flexibility for its day. The overall frequency response of 20-20,000 Hz with less than 0.01% total harmonic distortion means that this preamp can't be heard - In other words, it doesn't imparts its own sound on the music. Think of it more like an active pass-thru - ultra clean.
This unit has been thoroughly examined, cleaned and tested by our tech staff and is ready for many more years of music-making. Remote, manual and original box are included. Besides a few scratches on the top case (pictured), it's a time capsule.
