Sansui AU-222, Little Audio Gem!

We have this saying around the office when something is simultaneously cute, unassuming, and surprising.  We call it... "a li'l nikki."  The Sansui AU-222 is exactly that and has earned the monicker. 

The AU-222 was introduced in 1969 as a smaller version of the venerable AU-555.  This series was incredibly popular when introduced.  Despite having somewhat modest output power, these small integrated amplifiers worked very efficiently and had a sweet, natural sound that audiophiles instantly loved. 

At only 18 watts per channel into 8 ohms, the 222 is not a foundation-shaking amp by any stretch. But with a set of efficient bookshelf speakers from the era, like the AR4x or Small Advent, the 222 performs impeccably.  It wraps you up in the music and provides a lovely foundation for any small to medium sized room.  

The AU-222 is a compact unit, less than a foot across and about 10 inches deep.  It sits perfectly on a bookcase.  It offers excellent functionality with connections for two turntables, tape play/record, auxiliary source, and tuner.
