We are, at times, an "Adcom-Rich-Environment."  Here we have another beautifully preserved GFA-555 amplifier, this time the Series II.  Adcom made its name in 1979 with the introduction of the GFA-1 power amplifier.  The GFA-1 used what Adcom called a "high current" design with substantial power, at a reasonable price.  The amp was a hit, and a company was born.

This amp is the generational successor to the original GFA-1, the GFA-555 II power amplifier.  The original 555 was a Stereophile magazine "Best Buy" inn 1985, designed by the venerable Nelson Pass. The has held its own against many, many other more exotic amplifiers over the last 40 years, and has been tweaked and upgraded ever so carefully by Adcom's own internal design team.  Adcom shocked the industry back then by providing amplification that was uncolored, crisp, with boisterous and controlled bass - All in affordable and well-assembled packages.  Rated conservatively at 200 watts per channel into 8 ohm, and 325 watts per channel in to 4 ohm, the 555 can accommodate demanding speaker loads and do so without losing whimsy or charm.

The 555 II was released in the early 1990s and carries on the success of the original design, but with a few key upgrades.  The driver boards were upgraded with higher quality components, and the ability to bridge the amp for mono operation, offering upwards of 350 watts of output into an 8 ohm load with incredibly low distortion.

If you are an Adcom fan, or if you just want an affordable amp with no-nonsense performance, and a design that is rooted in audio legend...this is the one for you.
