Aiwa? Yes, Aiwa.  Aiwa Turntable?  Yes, an Aiwa Turntable.  And it's good?  Yes, it's actually very good.

Above is an actual conversation I had with myself about this Aiwa D50 Full Automatic turntable.  Aiwa has been in the audio circle since 1951, but the small Japanese company was quickly scoped up by Sony and its product history has been largely related to "low budget" portable cassette players and college dorm room boomboxes.  Apparently, for a hot minute, Aiwa made turntables.  They didn't make many of them, and some were of questionable quality, but this one...The D50...Is really something special.

The D50 has a few interesting tricks up its sleeve, or drawer, as is the case. The D50 is a slim, silver, somewhat inexpensive-looking piece of equipment.  But in actuality, it is solidly built and has a number of interesting features.  The unassuming buttons on the front of the unit operate the fully automatic mechanism to engage the platter, lift and move the arm, and begin playing. A Cut/Stop feature brings everything back to neutral position.  Of course the record can be changed by lifting the lid and manually making a swap. But, for those who like "extra" there's also an Eject feature where the disc drawer opens from the front.  What?  Why?  Because. Just because.

Of course this D50 has been completely serviced by our tech and works and sounds wonderful. There is ONE hiccup however, the drawer mechanism gets stuck upon opening, but can easily be nudged; closing is a cinch.

This is a great entry-level table and quite the conversation piece!
