Onkyo TX-61 Vintage Stereo Receiver

Onkyo is one of those brands that is often forgotten in the conversation of 1980s receivers for this reason. Originally formed in 1946 to create Japan's finest loudspeakers, the company quickly emerged as a comparative value player in hifi components as well.  It can be argued that Onkyo's peak popularity occurred in the late 1980s with their high-powered "Integra" line of amplifiers and complimentary components.  

The TX-61 receiver was introduced in 1983 and features a classic "Silver Face" look (with a real metal face plate - not plastic) with all of the features and power one would expect from a high performance unit from this era.  The amplifier sports 60 watts per channel with very low harmonic distortion, the ability to connect two sets of speakers, and several input options -- Including a user-adjustable phono stage, and dual tape loops.  

The star of the show, however, is the TX-61's "almost digital" visual aids.  We thought these details were so unique and cool, we took a video to better explain them (see below).  For example, the Bass/Treble controls and Source Selector knobs feature backlit alpha-numeric displays -- completely analog in operation -- but alluding to an upcoming digital age.  The best part, however is the motorized volume control illumination, which looks as clean and smooth as an LCD screen, which of course didn't exist in 1983.  Instead, a backlit slit next to the volume knob is obscured by a scrim, controlled by a geared motor, to give the illusion of magical moving LEDs.  RAD!

This unit is in excellent condition and has been completely serviced by our tech.  All controls have been cleaned, and output relays replaced for many more years of trouble-free operation.
