Infinity RS2.5, Futuristic Design in a Vintage Package

Here is a classic vintage speaker brand, represented by a uniquely devised speaker design: The Infinity RS2.5.  

The Infinity Reference Standard 2.5, introduced in 1979 and manufactured until around 1982, was designed as a scaled‑down companion to the formidable RS4.5 system. While the RS4.5 featured dual woofers and multiple midrange and tweeter elements, the RS2.5 offered a more compact, yet still technically advanced configuration.  The RS2.5 features a single 12‑inch (30 cm) dual voice‑coil Watkins woofer, two EMIM (Electromagnetic Induction Midrange) dipole drivers, and two EMIT (Electromagnetic Induction Tweeter) drivers—one mounted on the front, the other firing rearward.

There are two theoretically ideal ways of propagating sound in a room environment; the line source and the point source.  The RS designs, using these "exotic" drivers, attempted to re-create the sense of a point source to the listener by approximating line source propagation; where sound source must be infinitely vertical.  The RS2.5's sophisticated driver layout, combined with a frequency response spanning an impressive 30 Hz to 32 kHz, allowed for exceptionally balanced tonal reproduction across the spectrum.  And the lightweight planar diaphragms and samarium‑cobalt magnetic systems of the EMIM and EMIT drivers deliver clear and extended highs.

The RS2.5 as a rare vintage gem, combining cutting‑edge EMIM/EMIT driver technology, powerful bass, extended frequency response, and legendary audiophile appeal - “A fantastic speaker from top to bottom!” - Indeed!

This set have been tested, refoamed, and cleaned up here at the shop and the end result is very special.  The EMIT and EMIM diaphragms have been replaced with factory-correct parts by a local New England Infinity specialist.  Everything has been done.  They are plug-and-play!

We have this set tethered to a fantastic stack of ReVox electronics from the same period and the result is nothing short of amazing. These truly need to be heard to be fully appreciated.
