Vintage McIntosh preamplifiers and amps – I’m talking ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s – are imbued of a rarified authenticity for high fidelites akin to the original Grateful Dead lineup of Garcia, Weir, McKernan, Lesh and Kreutzmann with Deadheads: No matter how phenomenal or mediocre their performance, fans worshipping their sound will not be silenced. And regardless of what style or quality of music is being pushed through these black and silver works of art, there seems to be something special about McIntosh amplification powering the beat.
The C28 solid state preamplifier is thought of by many to be one of the best preamp designs McIntosh produced. Often paired with MC2505 (50w/channel) or MC2105 (105w/channel) solid state power amps of the same vintage, but also right at home with an MC225 or MC240 tube power amp.
This nearly spotless C28 comes from the "Richard K Collection of Fine Audio" and is simply awesome. We have a lot of vintage Mac pass through this shop but this is one of the all-time great pieces. Has been extensively checked and tested by our in-house tech team and it performs to spec. Brand new glass that replaced already near flawless glass. This incredible piece is over the top! Oh and did I mention it comes complete with an incredible Mac walnut case in flawless shape... oh, my!
If I were looking for a vintage Mac preamp this would be the one. When I say no disappointments with this piece, I mean ZERO. The 1st person who comes to the shop to demo this unit is leaving with it.
Demos are encouraged in Andover, MA.
