McIntosh is one of the most dependable brand names when it comes to high-end audio systems. For years the brand has been recognized by audiophiles throughout the world as equipment that delivers clear and consistent quality in music. McIntosh is probably best known for its amplifiers and preamps, but the company produces many other components and parts for stereo and home theatre. Of course, McIntosh (and other companies) have spent the last 50 years chasing - what some consider - the perfect sound of the MC225.
The MC225 seems to be the Goldilocks of tube amps. It's not too big, doesn't get too hot, it's not the most or least powerful, it's not the brightest, not the boomiest either. It's JUST RIGHT! The MC225 to this day has some of the smoothest, most musical sound we have heard, or really anyone has heard. It's the reason why it has been "copied" by many in an effort to mimic the effortless drive and dynamism that the MC225 has to deliver.
If you are one of those audiophiles who doesn't look at old tube gear because of maintenance or reliability issues, then this is the one for you. This unit has been completely overhauled internally. NOS TungSol 7591A tubes power the output stage while an army of NOS GE, Philips, and Jan rectifier and driver tubes set the stage on the input side. The unit has been recapped with TAD film-foil. All mylar purple caps were tested and verified. Power supply was completely rebuilt, as well as bias power tested and set. Receipt from CTech Electronics of North Carolina has been attached for reference.
Besides some unfortunate chrome pitting, this unit is plug-and-play and ready to emanate beautiful music into your listening room.
