Perreaux Audio was formed in 1974 in New Zealand by a small group of passionate audiophiles and musicians who wanted to create good-sounding, high-powered, durable amps and components for those who needed their audio to be a bit more "rugged" than usual. Perreaux gained notoriety by showing their signature power amps being repeatedly run over by a Vauxhall, and then playing a show 5 minutes later. Crazy "down under" type activities!
It wasn't until the mid-1980s when Perreaux become a formidable designer and exporter of hifi audio for the international audiophile market. In 1988, Perreaux launched the PMF2350 Power Amplifier to much acclaim, and for good reason. The PMF2350 packed 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms using MOSFET outputs for a smooth, classic sound. The amp seems to never run out of headroom with its 1,000 damping factor, and sounds super clean and unfatiguing doing it. As with most Class A/AB designs of the day, the amp can also power 4 ohm loads easily, with 330 watts per channel on tap in those situations.
Our PMF2350 is in very good physical condition and sounds spectacular. It has excellent low-end punch and a very refined overall presentation. You'd never know you were listening to an amp that's about 35 years old. And the look is classic, clean and uncluttered. Perreaux's notable segmented blue LED operating light is the only v visible sign the amp is up and running.
