Pioneer SX-980 Receiver - Beautiful, Versatile, Powerful

The Pioneer SX-980 is a classic AM/FM stereo receiver from front to back. Starting with the bright, shiny, and button-filled front fascia; and ending with the organized rear panel I/O, the SX-980 is exemplary of 1978 design. The receiver puts out 80 watts per channel into an 8 ohm load with an advertised < 0.5% THD.  

The SX-980 features separate bass and treble controls with turnover switches at 200Hz and 400Hz for bass; and 2.5kHz and 5kHz for treble. It also features tone on/off, filter switches at 15Hz (Rumble) and 8kHz (Hiss), FM muting, two Tape Loop in/outputs, two Phono inputs, and one Aux input. The Phono/Two selector also doubles as a mic input option. Loudness, which was a feature commonly used on radio broadcasts up and into the 1980s, is also prominently featured.  The illuminated signal and tuning meters, as well as both right and left channel output meters which display wattage, offer a lovely glow and visual impact to the 980 as well. 

This unit has been thoroughly cleaned, tested and updated here by our in-house tech. The real walnut veneered casework is in great condition and was also recently refinished.  

Performance on this SX-980 is top-tier. If you're looking for a vintage silver-faced Pioneer to up your MCM setup this one checks ALL the boxes. Has enough power to fire the toughest speakers. It's just the right about of grunt and grace!
