If you were a Sansui fan back in the golden era of audio you would dream of having the 9090DB which, at the time, was the flagship of Sansui’s lineup. However, if you didn't have the need for all that "jam" then you might have set your sights on the middle of the lineup which would have been this receiver – the Sansui 7070. While the 9090DB powered out a hefty 125 watts per channel the 7070 put out a respectable 60 watts per channel; plenty to power most speaker of that day. Famous pairing at the time was a Sansui, 7070 & a set of JBL, L110s. I feel like 7 in 10 Boston area dorm rooms had this setup shaking the hallways.
It features two very cool power output meters along with two additional tuning meters. It also has triple tone controls. Thankfully, it does not have troublesome Dolby circuitry like its bigger brothers the 9090DB and 8080DB, though it does have a Dolby / 4ch adapter on the back panel. It has inputs for Phono MM I+II, Tape I+II, AUX and Mic. The 7070 was produced from late 1976 until 1979 and sold for over $500.00 when first released. It was a very popular unit for Sansui.
Sansui receivers are in high demand with collectors today and this is the cleanest, best performing piece we've seen. Been once-overed by our in house tech and is plug and play ready for the next 40yrs.
The 9090DB may be one of the most sought after receivers around but those not looking for a monster receiver can find a unit such as the 7070 to be very satisfying and it's said that the 7070 was the "sweet spot" of this late '70s lineup.
