TEAC is a Japanese company, founded in in 1953, that has been making carefully designed, and precision calibrated recording equipment for many decades. TEAC had its first break as one of the companies trusted to record events for the 1962 Olympics, for both audio and video. This commitment to high-profile and high-quality records still exists today with the company's newest product lines.
The R-666X cassette deck is one example of TEAC's great efforts to bring high fidelity to the cassette format. Released in the late 1980s, the R-666X was possibly one of the last real efforts to produce excellent sound from the cassette format before CDs really took hold of the market.
Equipped with auto-reverse functionality, the R-666X allows for uninterrupted listening or recording on both sides of a cassette without manual intervention. Its soft-touch electronic transport controls offer responsive operation and extend the lifespan of internal components. The deck supports both normal and chrome tapes and includes Dolby B and C noise reduction systems, reducing hiss and enhancing dynamic range, especially during quieter passages.
Another really neat feature besides the large 2-channel digital meters, is the headphone monitoring feature, microphone inputs, and standard RCA line in/out connections, making it suitable for both personal and semi-professional use.
This deck operates well, has been serviced, and sounds great doing it. It has one issue with the LED display not illuminating completely within the first 3-5 increments. Priced accordingly!
