Platinum Audio Studio Series 3, Another Rare Local Find!

Having originally sold in 1997 for upwards of $2,000/pair, the Platinum Audio Studio Series 3 loudspeakers sat alongside some significant competition in audio stores across the country, and they held their own.  They weren't, however, big sellers.  Even today, it's very hard to find recently sold information on these speakers. Partly because not many were made, and also no one wants to sell the ones they have! 

They are really, really good speakers.  Full-range, with measured response down to 20Hz, the Studio Series 3 will shock and amaze listeners with their depth and overall room presence.  The company's founder, Phil Jones, was known in the industry as an innovator who utilized top-shelf components and construction techniques to create award-winning results.  The Studio Series in particular were praised for their dynamic range, clarity, and build quality, earning strong reviews in the audiophile press.

Using a D'Appolito array (Midbass - Tweeter - Midbass) as the driver arrangement vertically along the front baffle, the Studio Series 3 present a realistic and dynamic image.  Driver integration is nearly perfect. A 1" metallic dome tweeter brings even-tempered high frequencies into the picture, while twin 5.25" share the low-frequency load with a unique "2.5-way" crossover.  In this arrangement, the bottom woofer handles the lowest frequencies, from 250Hz and down, and the upper makes the tweeter hand-off at 2,500 Hz.  The crossover was designed by Phil Jones himself with the highest quality components, and able to handle considerably power due to a rear- mounted heat sink for cooling, not something normally found on passive speakers like these. 

The cabinets are densely constructed from MDF with a beautiful rosewood veneered body, capped with painted black MDF panels top and bottom. 

The whole package is well worth a listen, and really clean and pleasing in the looks department as well.
