Akai Electric Company Ltd. is an audio industry rarity in one particular way. The company was founded...twice: once in 1929 and again 1946. A victim of WWII, Akai essentially collapsed and was rebuilt by Saburo Akai, son of the original founder. The company has been rooted in consumer audio of some sort from the very beginnings until its eventual demise in the mid-1990s.
The X-1810D was a unique product which was able to play and record traditional 5-inch and 7-inch reels, as well as 8-track cartridges. This combination device allowed owners to record from one format to the other. So you could take your Cream reels out, record songs onto your 8-track, and then bring those cassettes over to your AMC Gremlin for the most amazing on-road listening experience ever! Outta sight!
The deck utilizes 5-heads and 3-motors 3-head, 3-speeds for a great amount of versatility. It also features dual microphone hacks, a headphone jack, and a built-in 4" speaker making it capable of stand-alone playback. The perfect travel companion!
This unit has been fully serviced and tested by our tech, Tom B, and is ready to play that funky music for decades more. It's in excellent physical condition, with lit meters, and function buttons and slides that move with snap and purpose.
Note, there is one cosmetic blemish to the top of the unit, as seen in the photos.
