Nuforce is a subsidiary of Optoma, a relatively new tech company introduced in the 2000s to develop versatile and inexpensive digital sound solutions for multiple markets, from OEM to gamers to audiophiles.  The company became well known in the audiophile segment with the introduction of the DAC-100, a very competent digital-to-audio converter boasting outstanding performance in a compact package.  On its heels came the DAC-80, essentially as competent as the DAC-100, but introduced at a lower price point...initially at $1050, and then later dropped to $550.

Although Nuforce de-contented a few analog options from the DAC-100, the DAC-80 can hold its own on the digital front.  The volume control allows it to be used as a preamp, with dual Coax, TOSLINK, and USB digital inputs on the rear of the unit. Internally, the DAC-80 is fitted with an AKM AK4390 chip for up to 24/192 decoding (Note, the DAC-80 is not DSD compatible). The unit's discrete layout with internal separation and noise isolation have translated into exceptional clarity, depth of soundstage and overall presence in music material.

This DAC-80 is in excellent physical condition. It comes with the power cord, but is missing the remote and manual.  Price reflects this, and makes it an amazing entry-level deal for someone looking to experiment with their digital music experience.
