Rotel was formed by the Tachikawa family in Japan in 1957 and rolled its first products out of the factory in 1961.  The company initially started as an OEM manufacturer for other Japanese brands (Panasonic, Sony, etc.) and eventually launched its own product line in the early 1970s. By the late 1980s and 1990s, Rotel had become synonymous with very high end audio, especially solid state amplifiers and control preamps.  Their main focus was power supply design, noting that with cleaner power supply components, other downstream assemblies would perform more quietly, resulting in better output and overall dynamics.

What we have here is a stack of wonderfully crafted components by this well-respected company: An amplifier, preamplifier, CD player, and power conditioner. Every piece has been tested and verified and performs admirably.  Let's go through them one by one:

RB-9990BX Power Amplifier - This understated amplifier packs a great punch with 200 watts per channel output to each speaker assuming an 8 ohm load, and up to 400 watts per channel into a 4 ohm load.  Reviews on this amplifier, even in the second-hand market, are glowing.  Crystal clear sound, low-end slam, and excellent detail without grain.

RC-995 Stereo Preamplifier - The perfect companion to the RB-990BX, the RC995 is a full-featured, analog, solid-state, stereo preamp.  Its quality starts with a robust power supply and ends with a long list of great features such as a selectable MM/MC phono stage, twin sets of unbalanced preamp outputs, and a set of balanced outputs as well. The internet is bursting with excellent reviews of this preamp.  A real near-vintage giant-killer.

RCD-955AX CD Player - This CD player was an entry-level offering from Rotel back in the day. The 16-bit Philips on board DAC featured 4x oversampling to deliver a clean and neutral-sounding analog output.  The CD player tracks discs well.  The tray mechanism could use a new belt, but with a little coaxing, opens and closes as it should. Remote control is included.

RLC-900 Power Conditioner - The power conditioner is often considered an add-on component, but in reality, it's a must-have.  Protecting your equipment from surges and filtering unwanted noise before it can ever get to you audio signal chain.

This is a fabulous combo.
