The Sony TTS3000 employs a slow speed servo-controlled motor to drive the platter & uses a slow speed (300rpm) motor that eliminates much of the noise and rumble that originates in mechanical speed-reducing systems. This unique servo system effectively compares motor speed with a very stable frequency reference. Any error in motor speed results in a correction in the current supplied to the motor. The speed reference is entirely independent of outside influence and line frequency is only used to power the strobe light. Also available fitted with the PUA-237 tonearm or with the longer PUA-286 tonearm. Here we offer the TTS 3000A w/237 "S" Arm & Goldring E1 Cart.
A bit of history - So, the servo turntable (arm not included) was developed by taking many conventional methods back to the drawing board and reexamining them deeply.
The use of this newly developed servo motor demonstrated features such as low vibration and noise due to low rotational speed with virtually no torque fluctuation, long life due to high accuracy of worn parts, and almost no rotational unevenness due to automatic servo control. This motor is used here in the TTS 3000, and a polyurethane belt drives between the motor and the turntable, further eliminating rumbling.
The servo motor structure consists of a DC motor and a frequency generator connected to a servo amplifier consisting of seven silicon transistors. The output of the frequency generator amplified by the AC amplifier is limited to eliminate the effect of the level fluctuation and converted into a DC output corresponding to the frequency. This DC output is amplified by the DC amplifier in the next stage and supplied to the motor. The frequency discriminator changes the terminal voltage of the motor according to the variation of the motor rotation speed. Since there is no output of FG in the stationary state, a starting circuit is required. The starting circuit starts the motor, obtains the output of the frequency generator, the servo amplifier operates, and the motor continues to rotate. When the servo amplifier enters normal operation, the starting circuit turns off. The characteristics are improved by a servo mechanism that can detect and control the wow. In addition, by adopting a DC motor, the rotation speed is stable regardless of the power supply frequency. In addition, there is no leakage flux of the motor. The mechanism has a simple structure because all speed switching and speed adjustment can be done electrically.
