Acoustic Research AR11, Quality Vintage Loudspeakers

Acoustic Research released the AR11 model in 1977 right along-side its studio-tuned cousin, the AR10pi.  The AR11 was the logical evolution the company's heralded AR3a loudspeaker, which is a highly-sought favorite even today.  Using the same crossover design as the AR10pi, but simplified to remove the woofer room boundary circuitry, the AR11 maintains musical accuracy and full range robustness, just like its cousin.  Designed for true, flat frequency response and proximity to rear walls to provide a predictable amount of low-frequency reinforcement, this speaker is an all-around performer in every aspect. 

The coated 3/4" cloth dome tweeter was one of the first in the industry to utilize ferrofluid cooling to improve power handling and transient response.  The AR-standard 1-1/2" coated fabric dome midrange, and ubiquitous 11.5" high compliance paper pulp woofer all combine for exceptional performance in a relatively compact (but HEAVY) speaker system. 

This set of AR11 have been brought back to life with new woofer foam, tweeter diffraction padding, newly fabricated grille frames and AR-correct brown cloth, and a handsome refinish of the real walnut veneer cabinetry.  These speakers look fantastic and show only moderate signs of age and wear.  Despite a few minor cosmetic faults, the speakers present themselves extremely well.  

Without the parlor tricks of the fancier 10pi model, and the historic stature of the older AR3a model, the AR11 is a relative bargain.
