The Adcom GCD-575 is a high-quality, audiophile-grade CD player that combines robust engineering with refined digital playback. Designed in the late 1980s during Adcom's golden era, the GCD-575 features dual Philips TDA1541A DAC architecture, 4x oversampling, and a precision linear power supply for exceptionally accurate sound reproduction.
Known for its clean, open soundstage and natural tonal balance, this player was a standout in its class for delivering high-end performance at a reasonable price. It includes both analog and digital outputs, making it a versatile choice for integration into modern or vintage audio systems. One especially innovative feature is the Analog Frequency/Phase Contour (AFPC) circuit—a user‑selectable tone shaping mode. It gently boosts frequencies below 1 kHz by around 1 dB while shelving treble gradually to approximately –3.2 dB at 20 kHz, helping to tame bright or overemphasized CDs.
The sturdy chassis construction minimizes vibration, and the drawer mechanism is smooth and reliable. This unit delivers classic Adcom performance and build quality, making it a compelling option for collectors or enthusiasts of vintage Adcom gear.
This example plays very very well. We have had it running here at the shop for several days, playing a variety of discs, and haven't encountered one skip. The drawer mechanism works great, the display is clear and easy to read, and the remote is included.
CD players are worth peanuts these days, but they can play really well if cared for.
Demos are encouraged in Andover, MA.
