ADS L630 Loudspeakers, A Budget 3-Way Speaker That Delivers!

ADS is yet another iconic New England hifi brand with an incredible product line and history.  Originally an importer of German-made speakers and electronics, ADS gradually grew to replace its distant cousin, Braun, in the mouths of audiophiles from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s.

The L630 was a budget-priced, mid-sized speaker in ADS's line-up that was introduced in 1979. The L630 incorporated ADS's signature "sticky" dome 1.5" midrange and 1" tweeter, and an 10" mineral cone Stifllite woofer in an acoustic suspension cabinet.  The combination of these drivers, and the sealed enclosure gave this speaker that iconic "New England" sound, but with impressive high frequency extension to match the recording media of the time.  With a measured frequency response of 33-20,000 Hz, the L630 is nearly a full-range speaker packed inside a large bookshelf cabinet.

The speakers evoke a classic 1970s style with the vinyl simulated woodgrain veneer and black cloth adorned grilles.  Physically the speakers are not perfect.  There are a few blemishes and scratches which are visible from 2-3 feet away, but certainly no show-stoppers.  The important bits, the components, all look and play marvelously.  These speakers have excellent range and play any kind of music with ease and clarity and they look great doing it.

This pair of speakers has been fully tested and is ready for many more years of music enjoyment.  Demos are encouraged in Andover, MA.
