Aperion Audio Intimus 522, Entire Multi-Room Set

Aperion Audio was created in 1998 to develop high-quality and affordable hifi speaker systems for the increasingly demanding home theater market.  Born from frustration with the home theater selections available at the time, company founder Win Jeanfreau set out to build speakers for himself and family and friends.  What started as a small idea, because a decades-long journey.  

The Intimus line of speakers was developed in 2004.  For under $2k, a wannabe George Lucas at home could grab a stack of Intimus bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer and connect them all to an Integra or Yamaha receiver from the same era and be rocking small screen DVDs with reasonable effectiveness.  The Intimus line were known for fairly simplistic 2-way designs - easy to drive -  combined with an assortment of powered subwoofers in 8-, 10-, or 12-inch varieties.

The set we have here came from a home with a pretty involving 6.1 channel home theater.  

At the front of the line we have the Intimus 522D-PT towers.  These slender speakers host a 1" soft dome tweeter and 5-1/4" mid-bass.  Lower bass is supported by an on-board 8" bass driver, powered by a built-in 100 watt amplifier. 

Supporting the towers are two pair of Intimus 522 Bookshelf speakers.  Using the same drivers as the towers in a small ported enclosure, the bookshelves present the same sonic profile as the towers, providing seamless voicing from one area of the room to another. 

Finally, the Intimus 12 Subwoofer was added to the mix for that last answer in low-octave resonance. Sporting an on-board 250 watt amplifier and long-throw 12 composite cone driver, the subwoofer is a pretty powerful beast on its own and weighs in just under 60 lbs. 

All together, this is a lovely system.  Condition is extremely well preserved. The satellites come with sturdy wall-mount sockets which can easily be removed via factory-threaded-inserts. The cherry finish is in nearly flawless condition all around barring one small 1" bruise on the base of one of the towers.
