B&W 803S Loudspeakers, Floorstanding Greatness

The Bowers & Wilkins 803S is a high-performance, three-way floorstanding loudspeaker designed to bridge the gap between studio-grade precision and domestic demands. As the largest model in the 800 Series  of the era to feature an aluminum dome tweeter—rather than diamond-deposited—the 803S utilizes a specialized, enhanced surround that allows for improved pistonic operation. This high-frequency unit is "tube-loaded" in the back to eliminate rear-wave radiation and housed in a separate "tweeter on top" pod, which minimizes diffraction and ensures superior stereo imaging.

The midrange is handled by B&W’s signature 6-inch Kevlar® FST™ (Fixed Suspension Transducer) driver, which provides remarkable clarity by reducing standing waves across the midrange frequency band.

The low-end of the 803S is driven by two 7-inch Rohacell® cone woofers, which are exceptionally rigid yet light, offering tight, articulate bass performance. To achieve deep and punchy bass without air turbulence or "chuffing" noise, the cabinet employs a front-firing Flowport™ system, featuring surface dimples similar to a golf ball to optimize airflow.

The entire 3-way system is housed in a curved internally Matrix-braced cabinet, which increases structural integrity and reduces internal standing waves and resonances. With a sensitivity of 90dB and a frequency response ranging from 35Hz to 22kHz, the 803S delivers a natural, dynamic, and neutral sound profile.

This set are in extraordinary condition.  The Rosenut real veneer finish is stunning and compliments the overall design, driver layout, and stance of this lovely speaker system. Made with B&W's signature construction standards, the 803S is a fine example of the marque. Drivers are also near perfect, with only the slightest surface mark on one tweeter which does not affect performance in the least.
