The Bose Acoustimass AM-5 (Series I), introduced in the late 1980s, revolutionized home audio by employing a three-piece, two-channel design focused on spatial sound reproduction. The system features two "cube arrays," each consisting of two swiveling 2.5-inch magnetically shielded, wide-range drivers, commonly known as "twiddlers". These, in combination with the passive Acoustimass module, are designed for flexibility, allowing users to direct one cube forward while reflecting the other off walls to produce a mix of direct and reflected sound that simulates a wider, more immersive soundstage.

At the heart of the system is the passive Acoustimass AM-5 Bass Module, which houses two specialized 6-inch low-frequency drivers that operate in a high-pressure, ported chamber. This technology differs from traditional ported subwoofers by minimizing air turbulence, resulting in reduced distortion and tighter, high-velocity bass output.

The passive module also houses the crossover network, taking in the full-range signal from the receiver and filtering the frequencies, sending low frequencies to the woofers and higher frequencies directly to the satellite cube arrays.

The system is rated for an impedance of 4 Ohms and is compatible with amplifiers providing 15 to 100 watts per channel.

We remember seeing the “unveiling” of the Acoustimass system in retail showrooms like Tweeter, etc. - Four small cubes that could convincingly fill a room with impactful music.  - True crowd pleasers and now a collectible and functional throwback to Bose’s legacy of innovation.  This set have seen some use, the "patina" is included!
