Bryston 4B Power Amp, Vintage Beastie!
The Canadian-made Bryston 4B Power Amplifier is a 250 watt per channel powerhouse. The basic design was initially introduced in 1972 and has been a staple for the company since its founding 50 years ago, with some tweaks along the way. The 4B is a modified Class A/AB amplifier which launched in the late 1980s. It features a very stable output stage, one dedicated for each channel, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 108 dB. This “dual-mono” layout allows for exceptional stereo separation. The amplifier can also be run bridged for 500 watts of total output power into one speaker.
This is a perfect example of the type of workhorse the 4B was, and still is today. Although it's physically not perfect...A few paint scratch on the underside of the rack handles, and some discoloration on the heat sink "fins," the important stuff on the inside is as clean and sonically excellent as the day this amp was built.
Dynamics on this amp are incredible, with detail, and power to spare for those “big” moments in both music and movie passages. This unit has been reviewed by our tech with a clean bill of health. Price reflects 7/10 physical condition - it's no "trailer queen" but it's 100% capable of kicking out all the jams!
