Heathkit SS-1 & SS-1B, Beautiful Antique Mono Combo

The Heathkit SS-1 speaker system and SS-1B bass cabinet were developed in 1956 as a top-line model for audiophiles looking for clarity and accuracy in mono recordings and broadcasts.  The SS-1 speaker features a 6" paper cone mid-bass and horn-loaded compression tweeter, believed to have been sourced from Jensen at the time.  The bass-reflex style enclosure allowed the small mid-driver to reach reasonably low frequencies, but to get some real bass, the SS-1B enclosure was developed to work alongside the SS-1.  Acoustically and aesthetically, the SS-1 and SS-1B units, and their supplied passive crossover network, worked hand-in-hand to provide an excellent audio experience. 

Here we have a very fine example of this historical Heathkit accompaniment. The plywood enclosures are finished nicely with picture frame moulding and a lovely mahogany wood stain.  The woven grille cloth is original and in excellent shape.  These pieces are truly a time capsule.  For someone interested in building a unique and beautiful mono system, this Heathkit set is just perfect.  Both in terms of looks and sound.
