JBL L150A, "Lease Breaking" High Output Legends

The JBL L100 speaker was a 1970s icon.  The 3-way design utilized a dome tweeter, 4" cone midrange, and very compliant 12" treated paper cone woofer in a compact ported enclosure for an impactful and dynamic listening experience that made the L100 synonymous with Great American Sound.  A few years later, JBL expanded its catalog and included the L150A, a bigger, beefier rendition of the L100, with some similarities but some distinct differences. 

The JBL L150A is a three-way, floor-standing loudspeaker system renowned for high-fidelity audio reproduction and efficient, deep bass extension, primarily achieved through a 12-inch 128H woofer and a matching 12-inch PR300 passive radiator. As a refined successor to the original L100 and L150, the L150A features the model 044 vapor-deposited aluminum, phenolic-dome tweeter for improved high-frequency definition; and an LE5-12 midrange driver operating within an isolated sub-chamber.  

The system utilizes a high-resolution crossover network designed with 1.1kHz and 3.7kHz crossover points, providing tight control over the drivers for remarkably flat frequency response. 

Housed in a dense, walnut-finished cabinet, the L150A handles up to 300 watts of power and is capable of generating massive, accurate, and detailed sound, making it a highly regarded vintage performer often considered superior to many modern competitor.

Like all JBLs from this era, the L150A could crank to "lease-breaking" volumes The 12-inch high-compliance woofers and 12-inch passive radiators delivered a deep, "liquid" bass that shook the room without a hint of distortion. Despite the massive sound and high efficiency, the L150A also provide articulate, and sometimes even delicate mids and highs when called upon.  Feed them the right power (more than you might expect) and you will be rewarded. 

This set have been refoamed and the original walnut veneer lightly refinished. New grille cloth graces the shapely - and rather large - front screens.  Great condition all-around.   If you have been looking for an iconic large JBL for your collection, these are it.
