The McIntosh C24 is a classic solid state stereo preamplifier that was produced between 1964 and 1970. Designed as the brand's first transistorized preamp, the C24 combines timeless black-and-glass aesthetics with a warm, musical, and incredibly transparent sound signature that rivals tube counterparts. This unit is a "survivor" piece, offering audiophiles a chance to own a pristine, iconic piece of audio history.
The C24 features a four-section volume control ensuring an exceptional signal-to-noise ratio of 90 dB on high levels, allowing for quiet operation. The unit’s sophisticated, low-hum performance is maintained by a full-wave silicon diode rectifier, a capacity-multiplier, and a solid-state, voltage-regulated power supply. The C24 includes a 50Hz low-frequency filter and a 5kHz high-frequency filter, along with a front-panel headphone jack and specialized L+R monitoring controls. It remains a perfect, "under the radar" centerpiece for audiophiles looking to start their vintage McIntosh journey with reliability and classic, rich, warm sound.
This unit is in very good condition cosmetically and great condition inside. It has been recently serviced by our in-house tech and is in healthy condition. The only problem area our tech discovered was a faulty adjustable loudness pot, which are not longer available. The loudness function has been bypassed in this unit, and our asking price reflects this.
If you've been looking to ease your way into vintage MacIntosh equipment this would be an excellent place to start your journey. The C24 is an under the radar gem for audio enthusiasts who truly know their gear, they value and cherish this SS pre and frequently mate it with both tube and solid state amps.
