Most vintage audio enthusiasts consider McIntosh equipment to be the top of the line. It is some of the best designed and best built audio equipment made during that time period. And, actually many would argue that you would have to spend thousands of dollars today on contemporary audio equipment in order to equal the performance of restored vintage McIntosh gear. McIntosh amplifiers are some of the most highly sought after vintage audio equipment around.
This is the McIntosh MAC1700 AM/FM solid state receiver. It was introduced in 1967 and was one of McIntosh's first solid state designs. Like the MAC1500 which preceded it, the MAC1700 uses tube elements for the tuning section which produces an extremely rich signal. The combination of modern power and design, as well as increased versatility make this receiver the perfect fit for someone just entering into the vintage McIntosh world.
- Power output: 40watts per channel RMS into 8 Ohms
- Harmonic distortion: less than 0.25%
- Damping factor: 100 across an 8 Ohm load
- Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz
- Finish: front panel in anodized silver with black glass
- Weight: 34 pounds
This particular MAC1700 is just a joy to listen to. It plays and presents like only vintage McIntosh does: with rich, warm, totally robust sound. The amp is fully capable of taming even the harshest systems with its "Mac-magic." The tuner pulls in FM with strength and accuracy. As with all of our equipment, this MAC1700 has been fully serviced with dozens of sometimes troublesome caps replaced and a full listing of work performed.
Physically, this unit has some pitting to the chrome-dipped chassis, but the face is in excellent shape with very little fading or issues with lettering. Glass is clean.
Demos are highly encouraged in Lawrence, MA.
