NAD, short for New Acoustic Dimension, was founded in the 1970s with the goal of delivering high-fidelity sound without the high price tag, focusing on minimalist, performance-first design. Their engineering ethos emphasized simple circuit paths, quality components, and real-world listening tests over flashy features, resulting in gear that consistently outperformed expectations.

The 20-Series, and in particular, the 1020 Stereo Preamplifier is the perfect example of NAD's core principles being put into place.  The NAD 1020 is still a highly regarded stereo preamp, known for its clean, transparent audio path with just the right amount of warmth — and it’s especially well-known for its excellent Moving Magnet (MM) phono stage, which rivals outboard phono preamps costing several times more.

Of course, the 1020 is a full analog design — no digital circuitry, no onboard DACs — just pure stereo performance, ideal for vinyl setups or anyone wanting clean two-channel audio. It pairs well with vintage or modern power amps and is an excellent match for NAD’s own 2200, 2140, or 2400 power amps.

Physically, the unit retains the understated charm of early NAD design — a matte charcoal finish, logically laid-out front panel, and solid build quality. The controls are tactile and responsive, and the unit includes a full suite of RCA inputs and outputs, making it easy to integrate into any stereo system.

This particular unit is in near perfect physical condition and has been checked, cleaned, and verified by our in-house service staff. All switches operate with "snap." It's ready to drop into your system and perform with the kind of sonic grace that made NAD a household name among audio enthusiasts worldwide.
