NHT SW2 & MA-1 Sub Combo, From Lechmere to Your Living Room.

NHT, (Now Hear This) developed a proprietary "focused image" concept which was implemented in their two-way speaker systems. The simple, but genius design included the rotation of the front baffles of the speaker systems at 21° and asymmetric positioning of the tweeter.  This design provided a high measure of focus at the listening position. Most of NHTs systems were smaller in stature and used smaller-than-normal drivers, partly to reduce distortion, but also to provide a sleek front fascia for The 1990's modern interior designs.  Smaller systems, especially for home theater use, often needed a subwoofer to enhance the lowest octaves. 

Introducing...the SW2 and MA-1 combination.  The SW2 is a passive square subwoofer enclosure, with highly rigid side panels and finished in gloss black high pressure laminate veneer.  The long-throw, 10-inch poly cone woofer with oversized magnet assembly allows for a relatively small box to push a lot of air and handle a lot of power.  Rather than couple the speaker to an on-board plate amp and sacrifice quality for size and convenience, NHT chose to provide a precision outboard amplifier for use with the SW2.  

The MA-1 power amp utilizes an internal active crossover filter and allows for full-range, EQ'd, or pass-through amplification.  With 80 watts of power (plenty for this high efficiency system), the MA-1 controls the low end reaches of the SW2 sub with clarity and authority.  

This lovely combo was a major home run for electronics retailers of olde, like the aforementioned Lechmere Stores.  NHT always held a prominent spot because of their performance, aesthetic, and value.  Times have changed, but the qualities that made this system great in 1991, remain today.
