Onkyo developed the "Integra" line of products in the mid-1980s to show that as a company they had the ability to design and build high-quality, high-output home audio and home theater equipment. Competing side-by-side with Pioneer's "Signature" and "ELITE"; and Sony's ES lines, the Integra series answered the call with top shelf internal components and build quality. Although these pieces don't have the look of vintage hi end, they definitely deliver the goods when it comes to sound.
The TX-SV909PRO receiver was a multi-channel powerhouse back in its day. With 110 watts per channel into 8 ohms for five channels, and 30 watts for the back channels, it was the top of its class in the home theater wars of the 1990s. Although surround sound technologies have changed year-over-year for nearly 3 decades, these older Dolby units boasts big, reliable power, capable DACs and a massive switchgear for plenty of digital and analog devices.
The amp inside this receiver hits way above its price point and the internal functionality will have your head spinning. In 2-channel mode, this amp is more than capable of powering some very hard to drive speakers, and does the job very well.
The preamp functions are numerous: MM Phono input, plus 8 additional analog line inputs - 4 of which can be used as record loops, AM/FM Stereo tuner, and one TOSLINK digital input. It also features pre-outs for all 7 surround channels and 1 for a powered subwoofer.
Originally priced at $2500 back in 1994, this Integra unit was no joke, and even today, it will outperform many higher priced "hifi" amps -- Perfect for an entry level system in need of serious power. Paired with a Wiim Ultra streamer DAC, or Bluesound Node and you can have the best of digital and analog worlds for less than the price of some hi-end cables.
Note, no remote on this unit and a few minor scratches. Price reflects these very minor deficiencies.
