Opera Callas

The Opera Callas stand-mount speaker sounds as elegant as it looks.  So, let's start with the looks department first.  These speakers are stunning visually.  The tapered 14 liter cabinet is built from 30mm MDF and glad in a gorgeous, curved real-wood veneer in either walnut or mahogany. The front panel of the speaker is covered in a soft leather which adds to its visual appeal and also acts as a damping surface to reduce unwanted reflections or coloration. The top of the speaker is finished with a black back-painted acrylic panel, another anti-resonant feature, with the "Callas" script emblazoned on the material.  Attention to detail follows suit inside the speaker cabinet as well, with racks of internal bracing and two differing types damping compounds to control air movement within the rear-ported enclosure. 

The Callas crossover is all hand-built, using the finest Mundorf filtering capacitors, air coil inductors and MOX resistors to reduce signal interference and distortion and improve overall image clarity.  The crossover is classified as a 2-way, 2nd-order, at 2kHz - A favorite of Opera's designers.  The crossover also includes a voicing switch with a simple "+/-" setting which increases output specifically between 300 and 3,000 Hz, allowing the listener to enhance those important vocal frequencies to suit the room, the music, and the mood. 

The drivers are sourced from Scanspeak and modified to suit the needs of this system.  The 7-inch annealed polypropylene woofer with long-throw design and extra large magnet structure is coupled with a Scanspeak D2905-series tweeter. The D2905 is known for its symmetric drive motor assembly, hand-deposited soft-dome diaphragm, and ferrofluid cooling for improved power handling and linearity. The combination is a perfect match. 

These speakers are simply, impressive. No matter how you look at them, from whatever angle, and in any light, they are beautiful. And the real proof is in the listening. The speakers present like a fine Italian Chianti Classico: full-bodied, harmonious, ample richness and color, and a little spicy --  An absolute treat.  Bellissimo!
