Phonitor x, Pre & Headphone Amp

The Phonitor x is both an outstanding headphone amplifier and an superlative preamplifier.  It can be used to directly drive power amplifiers, active speakers, or headphones with challenging load requirements.  In additional to its analog prowess, the Phonitor x can be fitted with an on-board DAC module, further expanding its internal capabilities.

As a headphone amplifier, the Phonitor x features both standard headphone connections as well as a balanced output for 4-pole XLR headsets.  The high output power and use of SPL's proprietary VOLTAiR power rail technology, provides controlled and vivid playback under nearly all conditions.  The Phonitor x has the uniquely resolved left-right lateral control to help "find the center" as easily as possible for personal listening.  Thanks to the Phonitor Matrix, music can be experienced on headphones as if it was played on speakers by allowing the listener to adjust both Crossfeed and Angle to suit personal tastes.

As an analog preamplifier, the Phonitor x features both balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs, allowing for a balanced signal path straight through the device.  The ALPS "Big Blue" volume control with remote capabilities commands the center position on the amplifier and matches the clean, clear and uncolored nature of the rest of its internal componentry and layout. Two mechanical VU meters visualize the input levels for the left and right audio channel giving a fantastic "old world" look.

The Phonitor x can also be fitted with an optional DAC768xs module, expanding the available input sources to five - adding USB, Coax and Optical connections. The USB connection also allows for DSD audio to be converted as seamlessly as any other.  The converter chip in the optional DAC is the highly acclaimed AKM AK4490 Velvet Sound™ premium DAC chip, which thanks to its architecture reproduces the finest details.  It converts PCM audio at 32-bit resolution and a sampling rate of up to 768 kHz, which is 16 times the resolution of a CD. Direct Stream Digital is also supported up to a resolution of DSD4 or DSD256.

This is truly an extraordinary machine.  Experience new levels of audible detail, either with your personal audio headset of choice, or play through a set of speakers and share with the experience with your friends.
