Quadraphonic sound was all the rage in the 1970s. One of a few iterations of immersive "surround sound" that developed alongside reel-to-reel, 8-track cassette, and 4-channel LPs, which later translated into Dolby Surround, ProLogic, and theater surround formats we use today. Pioneer was known for making excellent 2-channel products, so it's no surprise that their 4-channel offerings were also exceptional in terms of features, look, and sound quality.
The Pioneer QX-949 receiver featured here is no exception. Having been completely serviced, with significant capacitor replacement, service to the tuner controls, as well as quadraphonic decoding, this unit is ready to play for many years to come. The QX-949 supports CD-4, SQ and Matrix 4-channel formats, and of course can also be used as a gorgeous vintage 2-channel receiver for more traditional setups. The receiver provides 60 watts per channel of vintage solid state power to transport you back to 1974 when it was introduced.
The large, bold display, and killer analog "strobe-scope" meter are gorgeous.
