REL T/5, Ultra-Compact Yet Powerful Low-Range Companion

REL has been making ground-shaking subwoofers since 1993.  In 1998, the Strata III was introduced and gain incredible acclaim.  The simple design doesn't really give a true indication of the type of performance one can expect from this subwoofer.  At the time, it was at the top of the market and carved out a niche for REL as a subwoofer company to be reckoned with. 

The REL T/5 is a compact, high-performance powered subwoofer designed for seamless integration into small-to-medium-sized audio systems. At its core, the T/5 utilizes a sealed-box, downward-firing, 8-inch, long-throw alloy/fibre composite woofer. This downward-firing orientation is a critical design choice, allowing the bass energy to couple directly with the floor and radiate uniformly throughout the room, reducing room boundary issues and eliminating the need for a protective grille. The cabinet itself is constructed from heavily braced, high-density MDF, often finished high gloss piano black lacquer.  The aluminum feet, or stand-offs, provide the precise distance the woofer needs to perform its duties.

Powering the driver is a 125-watt  Class-AB amplifier, chosen for its high-current delivery, musicality, and speed, which are hallmarks of REL’s design philosophy. The amplifier incorporates a massive power supply and MOSFET technology, ensuring that the subwoofer can deliver quick, tight, and punchy transients that match the speed of fast main speakers. 

The T/5 manages its low-frequency output down to around 32Hz (-6dB), providing significant reinforcement to the lower registers without the "overhanging" or boomy sound typical of ported, budget-oriented subwoofers.

The T/5’s was designed for hifi music and small theater applications. It features a high-level Neutrik “Speakon” input, which receives the same signal as the main speakers to ensure perfect sonic timing and timbre matching, alongside a dedicated .1/LFE RCA input for home theater LFE channels.  This piece includes the original REL-provided cable as well as an improved AudioQuest “King Cobra” utilizing the same terminations.

Besides a few minor scratches to the top of the piano black finish, this T/5 is in excellent condition physically and sonically.  As mentioned, it comes with two Speakon cable adapters, power cord, instruction manual, and original box and packaging.
