Herman Hosmer Scott founded the H. H. Scott Company in 1947 in Maynard, MA. The company was a leading manufacturer of tube radio components for nearly 30 years before the solid state age took hold of the market. The company innovated the first FM multiplexer circuit for stereo FM radio broadcasts. In 1972 the company was purchased out of bankruptcy by EAD, and shifted gears toward more modern equipment.
H.H. Scott gear... simply amazes me, I don't know how to properly describe how satisfying it is to listen to their vintage tube amps. Some say they are a bargain, an under-dog, or "giant killer". They run side by side with the big names of their era and continue to blow away new gear using the same tube format. We think H.H. Scott electronics are a first class act when it comes to tube tech. This being the KIT versions of the 222 Steromaster line and knowing the professional builder who lovingly took care of this amp all these year, we can emphatically state that these are special tubers, for CERTAIN.
This modest 20 watts x 2 EL84/12ax7 push pull masterpiece has been playing all day with a set of fully restored JBL 4310 monitors and it's as if we jumped in a time machine; truly amazing and totally understandable why many prefer these types of older speakers with vintage tubers. The JBLs are SOLD but its getting acquainted with some 1st generation Klipsch Chorus later today; we'll see what kind of magic that duo produces.
This LK-48 has been gone through extensively here in house by our expert tech team and is deemed 100%. This is a CANT MiSS little amp. It positively sings. All gold finish has been cleaned, lettering clear and all there and this tube guy presents exceptionally in every way. Nice compliment of vintage 12ax7 and EL84s with plenty of life remaining.
The original Scott tube equipment is an exceptional audiophile value. Components that were built to stand the tests of time and continue to perform to stellar levels today. As long as FM broadcasts remain relevant, these Scott components will continue to pull in beautiful songs from the airwaves.
The Type LT-110 "Stereomaster" FM tuner uses a Wideband Multiplexing circuit to decode the finest stereo signals possible. Although it was intended to be a somewhat affordable option in its day, it did show some unique features from Scott's highest level tuner, the 4310 - where vacuum tube diodes were used in the multiplexer decoding circuit. This unit works perfectly. It has been cleaned and serviced by our tech. All bulbs replaced & a compliment of "better tubes". No disappointments! Demos are welcome!
