Sony TA-E80ES Stereo Control Preamplifier, Crystal Clear Music

The Sony TA-E80ES Stereo Control Preamplifier is essentially an example of laboratory test equipment that Sony brought to the hifi audio market in 1991.  The specs on this preamplifier are amazing: 3Hz - 300kHz overall frequency response with 0.001% total harmonic distortion.  And signal-to-noise ratios that are through the roof: 83dB for MC Phono, 95dB for MM Phono, and 105 dB for all Line inputs. 

The E80ES also features balanced and unbalanced input and output options for incredibly quiet and versatile connection and operation.  Much of this performance can be attributed to the internal design which is based around a low-noise, high-gain FET layout.  The tone controls are an NFB type and volume control is provided by a 4-gang ALPS pot.  Every component was chosen for a specific purpose and to extract the utmost from this little piece of audio art.  

We have heard some incredible preamps, and now we need to add this ES-series component to that ever-growing list.  It's neutral, clean, and simply a joy to listen to. 

This unit is in excellent physical condition.  The remote is included.
