Wait... Steinway?  Like the Piano company?  Yes, exactly, that Steinway.

We at Holt Hill Audio pride ourselves in bringing our clients the utmost in audio performance suitable for any space and any budget.  It's the reason we continue to have such an incredible stable of vintage audio goodies at affordable prices, ready to be combined with modern gear when the occasion is appropriate.  This listing represents the pinnacle (so far) of any offering we have provided since our founding 10 years ago.  It's fitting that for our 10-year Anniversary, we are representing such an astonishingly unique, elegant, rare, and powerful system.   This, folks, is the Steinway & Sons, Lyngdorf Audio Model D Sound System.

The Model D is not only Steinway/Lyngdorf's flagship sound system, it was their first.  Introduced about 12 years ago in Austria, this partnership bound itself together akin to a Game of Thrones blood-bond - Joining forces to eviscerate the competition.  Of course, the competition represents the most rarified air in the audio world.  What else is out there of this calibre, with an original ticket price of $250,000?  Magico? Von Schweikert? Wilson? Cessaro? OMA?  Sure, those are all fine, FINE, audio companies.  But none of them carry the brand caché of Steinway & Sons

Designed for zero compromise listening, and for being especially astute at reproducing piano music (obvs.) The Model D features an incredible set of 7-foot tall towers, each weighing 384 lbs. The towers feature four 12-inch composite woofers with magnets the size of salad bowls.  These woofers flank a pair of composite midrange drivers set in a D'Appolito array around an air motion tweeter.  The entire speaker array is an open-baffle dipole: meaning, all of the drivers are open to the front and rear giving an incredible sense of space.   The soundstage is "wider and deeper than the room," yet the entire system allows for individual voices or instruments to be picked out of space as if their geo-coordinates were being telegraphed right to your brain.

A quick word on the construction of these speakers.  It's world-leading.  The armature that holds the speaker's drivers is made from the same cast aluminum used on Steinway's pianos.  The structure is so rigid and inert it makes the perfect platform to mount these incredible long-throw drivers.  Allowing them to push copious amounts of air without causing the tower to shake, flex, vibrate, or move in ANY way.  And then of course, with the most deliberate and delicate of touches, Steinway finishes off this behemoth of a system with "grilles" of stretched string to complete the simulated the look of a piano harp.

Power, you ask?  Yes.  There's plenty of that.  Each speaker holds in its rear compartment, a pair of Lyngdorf A1 amplifiers, each delivering 400 watts of power to the drivers in dynamic fashion using a power sharing feature and on-board DSP.  The A1 amplifiers alone are remarkable pieces of engineering...Something we will opine on in a later listing.   Which brings us back to the DSP....

The entire system is managed and controlled by another, 3rd tower.  The "Head Unit," as they call it, which is another Steinway/Lyngdorf marvel.  Its commanding presence in the room matches the stature of the towers perfectly, while hiding enough intelligence behind its 17-layer lacquered piano black skin to launch a rocket.

The Head Unit is built on a billet aluminum armature and contains all of the brains to feed the brawn of the Model D towers.  It's a preamp, sure.  It's also a DAC, and a soundfield generator, and a DSP controller.  (Note, the Head Unit also houses an internal CD player, which in this example has been decommissioned and is non-operational.) The Head Unit communicates with the speakers via CAT-5 cable, feeding them a time-aligned, equalized, and DSP-corrected audio signal.   The idea is to deliver the PERFECT sound to your listening position, regardless of speaker placement, room design or other physical attributes.

The Head Unit accomplishes this by use of another Lyngdorf invention, the "Room Perfect" correction system.  This system is built into the Model D Head Unit and is facilitated by a calibrated microphone, cable, and stand (all included).  A series of measurements (anywhere form 8 to 40) are conducted with the microphone to map sound characteristics of the room and create a profile.  This profile is then used to create the Soundfield settings: Neutral, Music, Open, Air, etc... Which are specific to those mic readings.  The user can then select which Soundfield they prefer depending on their mood or program material.

There's also an incredible story behind this specific system.  One which we are happy to share when asked.

The bottom line is, if you are looking for the absolute "end game" audio experience, and you have the ceiling height to accommodate 7-foot tall speakers, and you like to save over 50% from retail...This is IT.

We are asking $129,000 for this system.  It is undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us and the new owners.

This fee includes professional, insured delivery anywhere within the Continental United States, and installation and calibration by yours truly at HHA.  Other shipping arrangements, including international shipping, can be made, and will be at the cost of the Buyer.
