TEAC is a Japanese company, founded in in 1953, that has been making carefully designed, and precision calibrated recording equipment for many decades. TEAC had its first break as one of the companies trusted to record events for the 1962 Olympics, for both audio and video. This commitment to high-profile and high-quality records still exists today with the company's newest product lines.
Th A-450 cassette deck is one example of TEAC's great efforts to bring high fidelity to the cassette format. Released in 1975, the A-450 sports line and microphone inputs with cross-fading. It also has the capability of equalizing to normal, CRO2, and metal tapes for recording and playback. Permalloy heads are used for both playback and recording, and in this case both are in excellent physical condition. The synchronous motor functions perfectly, and all control belts have been replaced with new, including the tape counter belt which follows along a sequenced LED display as the tape runs. So cool! Capstans have been cleaned and lubed and all controls cleaned to ensure quiet operation.
Another really neat feature besides the large 2-channel VU meters, is the cassette stage compartment on top. Such a unique conversation piece!
This deck operates exceptionally well and sounds great doing it.
