In the late 60’s Japanese electronics giant Panasonic/Matsushita invented the Direct Drive mode of driving a turntable without a belt. The 1970’s consumer grade turntables that followed would be sold under the brand name TECHNICS, enabling DJ’s to move a record back and forth without breaking the belt or damaging the motor. The legendary TECHNICS SL-1200 deck became a cornerstone of hip hop and an industry standard that arguably has yet to be surpassed decades later. Up for sale is a one of the best value decks Technics ever produced, the SL-Q2 from 1979. It was the more advanced option to the wildly popular and successful SL-D2 which was a quality, entry-level unit. Though more affordable, the SL-Q2 shares a lot of features with Technics’ higher end models (the Mk II versions of the much beloved 1300-1700 series). The platter is nice and heavy, the S-type tonearm is excellent, the Quartz Lock feature ensures perpetual, perfect speed, the switch from 33 to 45 rpm is near instantaneous, and the SL-Q2 comes outfitted with sleek logic touch buttons. This superbly built semi-automatic deck still performs beautifully; it’s truly built to last.

This Japanese vintage gem comes mounted with a very nice vintage Audio Technica, AT-70 "Red" cartridge with a very new stylus. The sound is rich, crisp, and detailed across the spectrum. The plinth is in near immaculate condition. The hinges and shock-absorbing feet are in great shape, and the dust cover is beautiful with only hairline scratches. All original, including slip mat, headshell and 45 rpm adapter. The unit has been cleaned inside and out, greased and lubricated, the cueing mechanism has been re-damped with fresh silicone oil for silky smooth cueing and the tonearm has been set up for optimal tracking. The perfect table to get into, or back into LPs. Just plug, play and enjoy.
