A far cry from the big-box fleets of modern, mega-feature, home theater amps, the Fisher 500 series is still considered by many music lovers to be the pinnacle of pure stereophonic sound.  The debut of Avery Fisher's combo amplifier-receiver in the early 1960s signaled the dawn of the home stereo revolution. It initially came in two flavors: the basic 500-B and the slightly pricier 500-C (seen here) which added a headphone jack. Both injected recordings with a hitherto unheard liveliness, using a magic mix of vacuum tubes and capacitors to transform electrical signals into incredibly sweet music. When the first consumers to plunk down $370 heard Bob Dylan singing like he was a few feet away, many were convinced that nothing less would ever satisfy their ears.

More than 60 years later, audiophiles still covet these two Fisher models. Revered by online communities, there's a cottage industry devoted to keeping the stereo 500-B and 500-C in superior working order. Audio Classics in New York is one such company, and they are attributed to the workmanship and modifications completed to this particular unit.

This piece has been completely serviced front to back; new capacitors throughout; new matching quad of JJ output tubes; and several new signal tubes internally as well.   The rear terminals have been modernized and locked in to support 4 ohm speakers without issue. The input terminals have also been swapped for modern gold plated posts, with 4 simple options: Aux, Phono, Mono, and "Direct" - The Direct option bypasses several preamp functions for an even cleaner signal.

This Fisher 500-C is incredible in appearance and performance. Nothing short of breathtaking. Besides a few small blemishes to the walnut wood case, it's a true gem.

We have opportunity to experience many, MANY older pieces in this shop but this Fisher, man, it's special. 30watts per/side of push-pull glory. Completely and painstakingly restored and ready to bring a mile wide smile to its next owner... just fabulous!

Demos are of course available and encouraged here in Andover, MA.
