In the world of high-fidelity audio, true low-frequency reproduction is not merely about power or extension—it’s about integration, subtlety, timing, and musicality. Enter the Vandersteen 2Wq Subwoofer: a reference-grade low-frequency solution designed to extend the foundation of your music system with unparalleled coherence, speed, and nuance. Meticulously engineered by legendary designer Richard Vandersteen, the 2Wq is not a "subwoofer" in the conventional sense—it is a dedicated, musically intelligent low-frequency transducer designed to seamlessly augment full-range loudspeakers, not merely shake the room.
Unlike typical subwoofers that rely on brute force and often DSP compensation, the Vandersteen 2Wq employs an uncomplicated first-order crossover, ensuring a phase-correct and time-coherent transition between your main speakers and the subwoofer. This is not an add-on—it’s an extension of your loudspeaker’s low-frequency capability, retaining the character, tonal integrity, and spatial cues of your system.
By utilizing an external passive high-pass filter (in this case the WX-2) inserted between your preamp and amplifier, the 2Wq lightens the load on your main amplifier and speakers, allowing them to operate more efficiently in their optimal frequency range. Simultaneously, the subwoofer’s internal analog low-pass crossover receives the signal directly from your amplifier’s output, ensuring absolute phase and amplitude coherence.
The 2Wq uses three 8" high-output drivers in a sealed enclosure to produce bass from 20-80Hz +/- 3dB.
This subwoofer is in excellent physical condition. Runs great and really adds that hard-to-find low end push without overpowering the room and creating an unwanted echo chamber. A great piece of engineering.
Demos are encouraged in Andover, MA.
