Velodyne DD-12, Direct Drive Series 1 Subwoofer

The Velodyne DD-12 (Digital Drive 12) was the company’s flagship, microprocessor-controlled, sealed-box active subwoofer. The DD-12 was designed to deliver ultra-low distortion bass through advanced digital signal processing. At its core, the DD-12 utilizes a 12-inch forward-firing driver—featuring a tandem 3-inch push-pull voice coil and a substantial 20lb magnet structure—driven by a Class D Energy Recovery System (ERS) amplifier that produces 1250W RMS and up to 3000W of dynamic power. This engineering enables the unit to reproduce low frequencies down to 17Hz (±3dB), providing high-output, nuanced bass suitable for both critical music listening and high-impact home theater applications.

A defining feature of the DD-12 is its proprietary Digital High-Gain Servo system, which monitors driver cone motion at over 15,000 times per second to ensure real-time corrections, maintaining harmonic distortion below 0.5%. This level of precision is matched by a comprehensive digital room management system, which uses an optional microphone to measure the in-room response. The DD-12 provides a composite video output to a TV monitor, which allows the user to generate and view an onscreen display. From there, users can apply an 8-band parametric equalizer; adjust crossover frequencies (15-199Hz) and slopes (6-48dB/octave); and provide phase correction (0-180° in 15° increments) via a remote control.

Although physically compact, the DD-12 weighs in at 67 lbs. Visually, it fits in with any setup, and sonically it has fantastic adjustability and plays deep, powerful bass with authority.

This subwoofer has a few surface scratches to the top finish and is missing the calibration mic, which an be found online.  A replacement remote and power cord will be provided. Priced accordingly!
