The RX-V2090 isn’t just any old A/V receiver. At its debut in 1993, it was Yamaha’s flagship model, retailing for over $1,000. It was built during an era when quality and audio performance were paramount, before cost-cutting and feature bloat diluted the A/V market. Back then, Yamaha was a champ in the burgeoning home theater market. The company effectively translated their "Natural Sound" monicker to the multi-channel world. Their equipment was known for operational simplicity, high value, and high performance.
The 2090 boasted 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms for all three front output channels, and 35 watts per channel to the rears - Recall the early versions of Dolby surround sound didn't require the same power to all channels. In addition to the standard suite of Dolby surround features, Yamaha developed its own "DSP-Cinema" sound fields by studying and measuring the psychoacoustic effects of actual concert halls, cathedrals, and theaters.
The large display, easy-to-read layout, motorized volume control, and analog tone and balance controls are all incredibly easy to use - much moreso than the on-screen and app-based menus of today.
You might be thinking, why would I want a surround sound relic from 1993? Well, consider this receiver for 2-channel use for a minute: Featuring discrete circuitry on the analog side, a giant power supply transformer, a dozen or so analog and digital inputs and outputs, a Burr Brown 24-bit DAC, and 100 watts of power...This receiver is a very effective 2-channel tool. Weighing in at nearly 40 pounds, the RX-V2090 boasts a full metal chassis, copper-plated internal components, and large heat sinks—built to last decades.
The power-to-price ratio is very favorable, and this unit is in excellent condition inside and out. We have both remote controls and the original manual as well.
